About The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter
The mission of The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, is to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The Greater Philadelphia Chapter provides support and resources for over 850 ALS patients, their families, and caregivers living in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware. We are proud to be the principal charity of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Supporting research worldwide, the ALS Association and the Greater Philadelphia Chapter provides hope for tomorrow. We are improving the understanding of ALS, developing new support systems for patients and working to find a cure.
About this Ride
The Eileen Frank ALS Foundation was started in 1999 by the family and friends of Eileen Frank. After being diagnosed in 1999, Eileen lived with ALS for two years and ultimately lost her battle with the disease in January 2001.
The ride was hosted every year to honor her memory. The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter worked closely with the Eileen Frank Foundation to keep Eileen's memory alive by gathering family, friends and members of the community to help raise money for ALS research. Starting in 2017, the top fundraiser will get “The Eileen Frank Award” to continue the legacy of the family.
The Ride to Defeat ALS attracts riders of all levels. The ride is staffed with dedicated and hard-working volunteers and is the only ride in the area raising money to help ALS patients and families.
Thanks to your generous past support of the Ride to Defeat ALS, $1.7 million has been raised for ALS research. We thank you for your generous support and continued dedication to this worthy cause.
